MISS Guyana Universe Odessa Phillips is due to leave Guyana for Ecuador on Wednesday, saying she intended to put out a 'glazy' performance at next month's Miss Universe 2004 pageant.

The contest takes place in Quito, Ecuador on June 1.

The 21-year-old law student, who hails from Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, will be among 81 delegates competing for the coveted Miss Universe 2004 crown.

The contestants are expected to arrive in Quito between May 11 and 13.

Guyana has never won any Miss Universe title since the country began participating in the contest in 1956, but at a media briefing at Water Chris Hotel Friday, Ms. Phillips undauntedly said she thought she had an excellent chance to return with the crown.

The Guyanese beauty asked her supporters to pray for her and to believe in her as she believed in herself.

Ms. Phillips, who will be graduating from the University of Guyana in November will be focusing on Solid Waste Management.

Her National Costume was designed by Mr. Dereck Moore and her evening gown was designed by Mr. Roger Gary. Michelle Cole and a Trinidadian designer also have pieces in the make up of her entire wardrobe.

Franchise holder Mr. Odinga Lumumba told the news conference that "Odessa has impressed the world" and he was quite confident that she would do well.

The 2003 Miss Universe crown went to Amelia Vega of the Dominican Republic.
