Fellow Parents,
High goals cannot be attained by wishful thinking. They are achieved by arduous work and sacrifice. Likewise, educating our children in established norms can only be done by way of continuous efforts and sacrifices.

In addition to sacrificing oneself or one’s wealth, it includes sacrificing one’s time, rest and sleep to work for making our children better human beings, better Guyanese. This also entails spending of one’s knowledge to teach others, using one’s high position to benefit or intercede for others: showing patience and forbearance to suppress anger and forgive those who wronged you: being cheerful and of good character towards others; and even wielding the efforts to abstain from hurting others.

Fellow parents, the development of our community and our country is a function of the collective expectation, attitudes, values and norms in any given society. When these impact upon the resources and relationships of our community and our country in a positive manner, development takes place.

Training and molding the next generation is not the monopoly of the academics or the wealthy, it is open to all, rich or poor, weak and strong, male and female. Giving is an integral part of all religion. So give of your time towards your children’s future.

Why do we always seem to have no time for our children, yet we always find the time to work more? Wake up before your time is over and you are full of regrets and wishes. Wishing that you had raised your child in a better manner, wishing you had taken the time to enjoy every blessing your child had to offer, wishing that you had hugged or kissed your child more often.

The moment of childhood can never be replaced. You will never be able to get back the experiences that were available to you when your child was three months or one year, or five years or 14years old. They will pass quickly in the blink of an eye. The best thing you can give your child is a good education for a good education is worth more than silver and gold.

Let us recapture the spirit and self-reliance of those who set the stage for us in BV/Triumph.

Congratulations
