THE Iranian-born Director of the International Islamic College for Advanced Studies in Georgetown was still missing yesterday, 11 days after he was kidnapped.

Mohammed Hassan Ibrahaimi, 35, was taken from his car by heavily-armed men just outside the college at Lot 42B United Nations Place, Brickdam, at about 22:10 hrs on April 2, after the men had reportedly blocked his path and sprayed his motorcar with bullets.

In the process, his administrator, Raymond Hally, was shot in the foot.

Police yesterday said that although investigations were ongoing there was no new information regarding the Iranian’s whereabouts.

No ransom was reportedly demanded up to yesterday.

The kidnapped man’s wife, who is in an advanced state of pregnancy, is very fearful for his life since no contact has been made by the abductors.

The Anti-Kidnapping Squad conducted a two-hour raid at the Guyana Islamic Trust (GIT) ISA Islamic School, on East Street, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown last Thursday morning while classes were in progress.

Six employees were detained for questioning and were subsequently released.

The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) in a press release yesterday condemned the kidnapping and urged members of the public who may have information regarding this heinous act to contact the police.

CIOG also noted with regret the manner in which the ISA Islamic School on East Street was searched, without warrant and the harassment that students and administration officials were made to endure.

Chief Executive Officer of the CIOG, Mr. Jamal Imran, said in the press release that while the organisation calls on the authorities to diligently investigate this kidnapping, it urges that due course and civility be maintained at all times - particularly when dealing with institutions of learning and religion.
