The new Caricom headquarters currently under construction at Liliendaal is expected to be completed in another six weeks, according to Project Coordinator of the Ministry of Finance, Subhas Joshi.

Joshi made this disclosure yesterday while speaking to reporters during a tour of the site by President Bharrat Jagdeo. Joshi said at present the contractors were completing "the finishing touches", which include fixing the ceiling, installing electricity, painting and tiling.

According to Joshi, there were no major hiccups at the moment and no adjustments were made to the building even after several persons had criticised its design.

Jagdeo said he was pleased with the level of work being done on the building. He told reporters his site visit was aimed at assessing the work so as to give an update at the upcoming Caricom Heads of Government meeting in St Kitts.

In a visit earlier this year, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds had also declared satisfaction with the structural design of the building, which had been the subject of much public scrutiny in recent months.
