Parliament on Friday passed a motion ratifying the agreement for the partial abolition of visa requirements for travel to Brazil.

The motion, moved by Minister of Foreign Affairs Rudy Insanally, follows Monday's presentation of the agreement that the two countries signed on July 30, 2003 to the National Assembly.

The agreement, once it is ratified by both countries, will allow for nationals of Guyana and Brazil to travel without visas for periods of not exceeding 90 days for the purpose of vacationing. This would be renewable provided that the stay does not exceed 180 days per year.

According to Brazilian Ambassador to Guyana, Ney do Prado Dieguez, the Brazilian Congress is still to ratify the agreement and decide on an implementation date.
