Two remanded over weapons at Providence

The two men who were detained on Sunday near the Providence Police Station after they were reportedly found with loaded firearms and ammunition in their possession appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate's Court yesterday to answer to three charges jointly and separately.

John De Santos and Mark Anthony Aaron (no addresses given) were jointly charged with unlawful possession of firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition while De Santos is facing the charge of possession of narcotics. Both men pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded to prison.

It is alleged that the two men at Providence, East Bank Demerara, had two

AK-47 rifles, one Glock .45 pistol, and one .32 Taurus pistol in their possession. On that same day, the police allegedly found ten .45 rounds of ammunition, fourteen .32 rounds of ammunition and 54 rounds 7.62x39 ammunition in the vehicle in which the men were travelling.

The accused will return to the Georgetown Magistrate's Court on March 31, while the possession of narcotics case was transferred to the Providence Magistrate's Court for Monday.
