Chairman of Region Three Esau Dookie says that last Thursday's meeting of the Regional Democratic Council was not aborted but was adjourned because of the din created by desk-thumping PNCR councillors.

Dookie was responding to a report in the March 5 issue of the Stabroek News quoting a PNCR release as saying that the meeting was aborted after Dookie refused to entertain a motion on the issue of the death squad allegations.

Dookie told Stabroek News yesterday that in moving a motion for the suspension of the Standing Orders the councillor never identified the nature of the issue for which the suspension was required and as a result the motion was denied. The denial was followed by desk thumping by two PNCR councillors and this led to the adjournment of the meeting.

Stabroek News had attempted to contact Dookie on Thursday for comment on the PNCR statement but this was to no avail.
