Embattled chairman of the Grove/Haslington Neighbourhood Democratic Council NDC, Godfrey Henry will resign this weekend, according to a source close to the council.

Stabroek News was un-able to contact Henry on his decision which he is reported to have made at a meeting held by PNCR Leader Robert Corbin yesterday at the NDC's Nabaclis office.

Several villagers along with village councillors and top officials of the Regional Democratic Council for Region Four attended the meeting, which was planned to discuss Henry's future.

Last week similar meetings were held. Apart from attending the meeting, Corbin also went on a walk-about in the villages of Victoria and Ann's Grove.

Stabroek News was told by a source, who was at the meeting, that Henry made the decision yesterday and would officially vacate office this weekend. He would remain as a councillor.

In the meantime arrangements are being made for an interim management committee to run the affairs of the NDC until a chairman is appointed.

Henry is facing allegations of unaccounted for market fees, rates and taxes, monies collected for promised electricity to villagers of Golden Grove, and an explanation as to why the October, November and December pay sheets were not signed by him. He denied all of these allegations declaring that his slate was clean.
