Guyana is scheduled to play Grenada on February 28 in the first of two games to decide who will meet the USA in the next round of the World Cup qualifiers.

Judging from the performance of the Under-23 side many believe that Grenada will be a walk in the park for the locals. Today we provide details of the last six games played between the two sides.

Grenada is ranked 154th by FIFA while Guyana is some places below at 182nd. Since 1987 Guyana has played Grenada six times at the senior level.

Grenada won three of the matches, two were drawn and Guyana won the other. The last game between the two CARICOM members was in Antigua on April 18, 1998 when Guyana lost 2-1 in a match of the Shell Cup competition.

Two years earlier (April 7, 1996) in Grenada the host team hammered Guyana 6-0 in a World Cup Qualifier. In the first match of the home-and-way tie played in Guyana on March 29 Grenada came out on top 2-1.

The two teams played to a 0-0 draw on May 27, 1990 in Guyana. That game was in the Shell Cup competition. Guyana's lone victory came in the mining town of Linden on September 6, 1987 when the home team won the friendly encounter 3-0.

The first time the two sides met in the last 16 years the game was drawn 1-1. (Steve Ninvalle)
