The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce and entertainment promoters "Hits and Jams" have announced that they will again be collaborating in Mashramani celebrations.

One aspect of this year's joint venture will be the band, "Unification", which will reflect the Mashramani theme "Unity, Beauty and More in 2004"

Minister Manzoor Nadir and "Hits and Jams" representative Troy Mendonca made this disclosure at a news conference last week at the ministry, according to a release from the Government Information Agency (GINA).

Mendonca noted that other private companies such as GT&T and Banks DIH Limited, non-governmental organisations and the Ministries of Local Government and Culture, Youth and Sport are providing financial support for the float. Mingles Sound Machine, El Sadiek Band and Fusions International will provide the music on Mashramani Day

Meanwhile, a brochure highlighting various costumes to be featured in the band was presented to the public. Costumes for both men and women are on sale. Persons who purchase costumes will be privileged to attend upcoming activities hosted by "Hits and Jams".

Minister Nadir said that the Mashramani celebration is about the masses and promotion of unity among the people. He noted too that as part of the tourism development drive, entertainment activities must be provided.

The tourism ministry and "Hits and Jams" have several other joint activities on the Mashramani calendar. On the schedule are the Jeans Party on February 7, the Colour Party on February 14, a Glow Party on February 22 and the Mash Wash Down event on February 29.

The partnership between "Hits and Jams" and the Ministry of Tourism is expected to continue throughout the year, GINA stated. Last year the two created a Mashramani float.
