Reigning Calypso Monarch, Vivian 'VJ' Jordan is on his way to defending his title after the Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) restored his piece, "I Will Resign" to the airwaves yesterday.

Mash enthusiast, Don Gomes who had threatened to boycott mash celebrations this year after GBC took a decision to stop playing the song on Wednesday, told Stabroek News yesterday that Minister of Culture, Gail Teixeira informed him of the decision to air the piece once more.

Gomes said that the song hit the local stations, Voice of Guyana and 98.1 fm early yesterday and will continue to be aired until the calypso finals on February 20.

He applauded Minister Teixeira.

A jubilant VJ said yesterday that he is heartened by the move.

He expressed gratitude to the state-owned media and said that he is fired up to retain the monarchy for the third consecutive year.

GBC had pulled the piece which takes a dig at the President and the Minister of Home Affairs without naming them.

Controversy then surrounded the move after GBC claimed it was told to pull the piece since it was not cleared by the ministry.

The ministry then declared it had no authority over GBC and did not direct the move to pull the piece.

The ministry said VJ was through to the finals to defend his title since it had no problem with the lyrics.
