The Indian government will provide US$20 million towards the construction of a World Cup stadium in Guyana.

A press release from the Government Information Agency on Monday, which was carried in yesterday's issue of this newspaper, had quoted President Bharrat Jagdeo as saying that the government of India had agreed to contribute US$6 million towards the financing of a multi-purpose stadium and also offered Guyana a soft loan amounting to about US$20 million.

However, GINA corrected this in a release yesterday, which said "President Jagdeo noted that in discussions with the Indian Government it has been agreed that Guyana will be given a grant of US$6M and offered a soft loan of US$14M to cover the rest of the expenses amounting to about US$20M."
