Guyanese Thelma Lewis receives papal award

Guyanese born Thelma Lewis has received the Bene Merenti Papal Award for years of dedicated and devoted service to the Roman Catholic Church.

According to a press release, Lewis also received a certificate of recognition from the Guyana High Commis-sion in the United Kingdom (UK) for her tremendous service to Guyana and the Guyanese community there. She was also the recipient of the Heart of Gold Award presented by the Guyanese Charity Ball Committee, Long, for her outstanding service to the Guyanese community.

Lewis was among the early batch of nurses at the St Joseph Mercy Hospital who left Guyana in 1955.

Lewis has done a lot of charitable work, particularly with 'Aid to Guyanese Group'.
