Health Minister Dr Leslie Ramsammy is resting comfortably at his New York home, Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon said yesterday.

Ramsammy had undergone heart surgery on New Year's Day.

At his weekly press briefing, Dr Luncheon said Cabinet had been reassured by the news that Ramsammy was recuperating and his condition was stable.

According to Luncheon, despite this it would not be prudent to predict how soon the minister would return to work, but rather his doctors and the minister's own communications on the matter would determine this.

He insisted that any decision on the fate of the minister's continued tenure at the health ministry would be informed by medical advice and the views and positions of the minister himself.
