Miller ends tennis tourney with three titles

JEREMY Miller captured a third title on the final day of John Skinner junior tennis tournament at Le Meridien court, yesterday, adding the 18 & Under crown.

Miller defeated the taller and stronger Nicholas Fenty in two sets 7-5, 6-4.

In cool conditions, Fenty took a 4-3 lead but Miller, levelled the set 5-5, got the break and went up 6-5, eventually winning 7-5.

Miller raced to a 4-1 lead in the second set, but lost focus and Fenty came back 3-4. The scores were levelled at 4-4. He regained focus and went up 5-4, eventually triumphing 6-4.

Miller had claimed the 12 & Under and 14 & Under titles. His only blemish in the competition was in the Boys’ Doubles, losing with Adam Alves 6-4, 3-6, 1-6 to Fenty and Peabo Lewis.

Prizes were later presented to the various winners - Alice Ally in the Girls 18 & Under with an upset over last year’s champion Avonelle Holder, and the Girls’ Doubles team of Holder and Vasheema Baurne, who defeated Ally and Renee Vieira.
