FAREWELL GOOD COP, FAREWELL DEAR HUSBAND --- That's what a grieving Mrs. Pamela Griffith appeared to be whispering as she peered into the face

DEPUTY Superintendent of Police, Richard Gladstone Griffith, who was shot dead by a former sergeant of police, Solomon Blackman, who went on a rampage at the Brickdam Police Station on March 1, was laid to rest yesterday at Saint Alban's Churchyard, Belladrum, West Coast Berbice.

A large crowd turned out at his Lot 35 Middle Walk, East Bank Demerara, residence to pay their last respects to the fallen lawman who succumbed shortly after being shot in his office.

Griffith died while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

His immediate relatives who had surrounded his coffin wept bitterly as he was being taken away, even the neighbours watched with tears in their eyes as the coffin was placed in the hearse.

The silence of the atmosphere was shattered by loud wails as Griffith's wife held onto his coffin for support.

This was a grim reminder for Rohini Latchana and her daughter, Samantha, who were present. They cried together with Griffith's relatives as they viewed the body.
Former Lance Corporal, Ramnarine Latchana, was cremated on Saturday at Good Hope, East Coast Demerara.

The policeman's body was then taken to the Saint Phillip's Anglican Church for service in celebration of his life where tributes, prayers, scripture reading, and hymns were the order.

Among those present at the church were Cabinet Secretary, Roger Luncheon, former Commissioner of Police, Floyd McDonald, Commander of 'A' Division, Larry George, and several prominent businessmen.

Cabinet Secretary, Roger Luncheon, during his brief remarks conveyed his support on behalf of the government to the families of the fallen policemen.

Upon conclusion of the church service about 1:00 pm Griffith's body was once again placed in the hearse and transported to his final resting place at Belladrum, West Coast Berbice.
