LONDON, England, (CMC) - Former England captain Allan Lamb is excited about the Grenada Cricket Classics later this month in Grenada that will parade several former Test stars.

The two-match series on March 26 and 27 will have Lamb and ex-West Indies pacer Joel Garner as opposing captains.

“I’ve been working with Joel and we’ve managed to put a very strong West Indian side together.

Some of the old players I played against and we’ve managed to get a decent English side,” Lamb told CMC Sport yesterday.

Garner’s West Indies team will include Caribbean legends Sir Vivian Richards, Courtney Walsh, and Richie Richardson, all former West Indies captains, plus Curtly Ambrose and Desmond Haynes.

Caribbean-born former England internationals Devon Malcolm and Phil De Freitas will be in Lamb’s team.

“Basically it’s going to be entertainment, it’s going to be really played in a carnival spirit and I’m sure that a lot of people are going to enjoy it, seeing those famous faces,” Lamb said.

The event falls between the Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago Test matches of the Cable and Wireless series between West Indies and England and Lamb anticipates strong interest from English visitors and regional fans.

“The sights of Viv Richards, Curtly Ambrose and Courtney (Walsh) coming in to bowl, I think everyone will love to see them once more,” said Lamb, one of the organisers of the Classics.
