ALICE Ally pulled off the biggest upset of the Skinner-sponsored junior lawn tennis tournament yesterday, when she defeated 2003 18-and-under champion Avonelle Holder in the final, while Jeremy Miller claimed his second title of the competition.

Ally after losing the first set to Holder 2-6, shifted into high gear with a 6-4 winner in the second and wasted no time in the third set with a quick 6-2 dismissal.

Ally has now claimed the first 18-and-under female title for the year.

Miller copped his second title with a 9-1 victory over Andy Goveia in the Boys’ 14-and-under class. He had won the Boys’ 12 and under title on Sunday.

In other results, the pair of Nicholas Fenty and Peabo Lewis claimed a two-set win against Adam Alves and Jeremy Miller.

Alves/Miller had taken the first set 6-4, but lost the remaining two 3-6, 1-6.

In the Boys’ 18-and-under division, Miller will meet Fenty on Sunday at 15:00 hrs.

Organiser of the competition, Diwani Lewis, said that after the work put in by the players they were exhausted and as a result the decision was taken to shift the final to a later date.

In the semifinals, Miller defeated Zico Bruce 9-2, while Fenty got past Alves 9-7.

Following the finals at Le Meridien, Pegasus on Sunday, the winners will be presented with their prizes.

The Baker and Giles families of the Guyanese/South Florida Association and Robert Persaud of Robert’s Jewellery also sponsored the competition.
