Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS), Dr. Roger Luncheon, says this year's Mashramani celebrations, which marked the 34th Republic Anniversary, attracted the largest participation from overseas in the history of the observances.

Speaking at his weekly news conference yesterday the HPS said Cabinet noted that the celebrations "reflected a contagious mood of festivity and joy."

He added that Cabinet has extended congratulations to the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Ms. Gail Teixeira and the staff of her Ministry for the organisation and execution of Mashramani observances. Congratulations were also extended to the private sector and all those who were responsible for the successful outcome of Mashramani.

Dr. Luncheon noted too that reports from Cabinet members who attended the celebrations in the administrative regions indicate a similar mood as that observed in Georgetown.

Of special significance the HPS pointed out was that there was adequate security during the week-long observances and on Mashramani day itself.

The final list of winners in the various competitions in different cultural categories is being presently compiled and will be made public shortly, the HPS disclosed.
