NATIONAL men’s champion Shawn Badrinauth has successfully defended his Bounty Farm Limited-sponsored Handicap squash title with a two-set hard-fought battle over Caribbean Under-17 champion Damien Da Silva yesterday at the Georgetown Club.

Badrinauth, playing with a handicap of minus 40, defeated Da Silva with a handicap of minus 25, 15-11, 15-13 to take the title.

After his victory, Badrinauth dedicated his win to the late Gerard Greaves who was killed in a road accident on January 2, this year.

The champion said that had Greaves been alive, he would have gone a far way in the tournament.

The third place spot went to Guyana Squash Association (GSA) president Khalil Alli, who defeated Turan Mohabeer 15-6, 12-15, 15-8.

Badrinauth had defeated Alli in the semifinals, while Da Silva got past Mohabeer.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Ryan Braithwaite won the sportsmanship award, while Ingram Edwards was adjudged the most improved player.

The company said that they would again be sponsoring the tournament in 2005.

Meanwhile, the annual general meeting is set for today at the Georgetown Club from 18:00 hrs.
