THE Kashif and Shanghai (K&S) Organisation has reacted to the robbery incident carried out on some members of the national senior football team in Buxton last Friday night.

In a press release yesterday, the organisation said that when all the circumstances are taken into consideration the choice of location for the encamped national team amounted to a grave and unpardonable error in judgement.

The Kashif and Shanghai statement reads: The recent incident in which members of Guyana’s senior national football team were victims of a robbery during their encampment in the East Coast Demerara village of Buxton is a deeply disturbing development that exposes, not for the first time, the inherent weaknesses of the administration of Football at the national level.

Those responsible for the administration of football in Guyana can hardly be unaware of their responsibility to create an environment in which an encamped national football team can properly prepare to represent Guyana at the international level. An integral part of that responsibility is to place the encamped players in an environment where, as far as possible, both their physical and mental well-being would be assured.

It is the view of the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation that when all the circumstances are taken into consideration the choice of location for the encamped national team amounted to a grave and unpardonable error in judgement. While we are profoundly grateful that no injury or loss of life occurred, we deplore the fact that the lives of our national footballers, a valuable asset to our country, may actually have been put in danger.

The recent robbery incident underscores the ineptitude of those responsible for the administration of football in Guyana.

There have been in the recent past, other blunders and serious errors in judgement that have reflected a profound lack of respect for national footballers.

Given all the circumstances, the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation calls on the Honourable Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport to establish a Commission of Enquiry into the robbery incident and the general amenities and facilities afforded the national football team in the shortest possible time.
