TWO hundred and twenty-two thousand birth certificates were issued from the Registrar General’s Office during last year, Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Ronald Gajraj disclosed Monday.

Speaking at the opening of a branch office in New Amsterdam, Berbice, he said 46,000 marriage and 24,000 death certificates were obtained during the same period.

In comparison, for 2002, 346,000 birth certificates, 32,000 marriage and 20,000 death certificates were also granted.

Of the total, Minister Gajraj said a significant number of the applicants resided in the ‘Ancient County’.
