TWO prominent Guyanese boxers already have ring dates for the New Year, one as early as this weekend in Nigeria.

Gwendolyn ‘Stealth Bomber’ O’Neil will meet the famed Laila Ali, the daughter of the legendary Mohammed Ali, in Abuja, Nigeria, while Howard Eastman will take on Jorge Sendra in England for the European Middleweight title on January 30.

Treasurer of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control, Andrew Thorne, confirmed that O’Neil would be fighting the Ali and should have left over the weekend for Nigeria.

Thorne, however, said that the boxer did not contact the GBBC before her departure although she had informed the boxing body about the fight.

The GBBC would still give the boxer its blessings, according to Thorne.

O’Neil goes into the ring with seven wins, three losses and one draw, while Ali is unbeaten in 16 fights.

Eastman has 38 wins and one loss, a controversial decision against William Joppy. His opponent Sendra meets him with 25 wins, one loss and one draw.
