Dear Editor,

Detectives should be placed at the bus parks or sent there at random to body search drivers, conductors and passengers. Buses should be checked along the way each day at different points for weapons. If you speak out against overloading and refuse to allow another passenger in the same seat there is the possibility of someone giving you a "good cussing" or even a gun being pointed at you.

There is no respect for 'public servants'. Why? There are many white collar criminals, moving among the decent citizens, including gun runners, drug pushers, pimps and prostitutes and whenever a decent person speaks out the whole lot join in the abuse.

Our police force are there to protect the citizens. Our taxpayers' dollars pay them. We need them to provide protection. Let them begin doing their work and we will stand by them. We are fed-up with this situation. This is what is causing our qualified workers to emigrate.

Every year the Cyril Potter College of Education and the University of Guyana are graduating thousands of persons only to have them migrate, not only because of the cost of living but also the crime situation.

Yours faithfully,

Amanda Martins
