The much talked about `Main Big Lime' came off with a bang yesterday with thousands of Guyanese trooping down to the Main Street location for an afternoon of fun.

Many persons could be seen enjoying what was on offer at the lime and making their way to the location with their children, even though it was evident that after nightfall there wasn't much for the little ones to do. President Bharrat Jagdeo was among those at the lime which has become an annual event.

There were booths on display and vendors plying their goods including stuffed animals. One booth had face painting and children could have photographs taken after they were painted. There was also a merry go round and games for the children early in the afternoon.

As has become the norm, there were many music sets belting out tunes which competed which each other to be heard and created quite a din. Bands on stage could hardly be heard above nearby sets. One person in attendance commented that there were too many music sets and too close to each other.

As night stepped in many persons with their children in tow would have left and the young and not so young would have stayed on for the big party session that usually follows.

The lime, which has become a fixture at this time of the year, was cancelled last year because of the crime situation. The lime was organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce and the private sector.
