Lotto funds for initial cricket stadium works

Government will use money from the Lottery Funds to undertake preparatory work in relation to the construction of the cricket stadium at Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon at his post-cabinet press briefing yesterday said that some $4.2M has been approved by cabinet for preparatory works.

According to Luncheon the funds, which will be used in two instalments of $2.1M each will be used to undertake land surveying, photographic and other studies as well as soil investigations and collecting samples from the designated site.

The Government of India has made a commitment to assist Guyana in working towards the development of the stadium in time for the 2007 Cricket World Cup to be hosted by the West Indies
