President Bharrat Jagdeo still hopes to have the police, public, teaching and judicial service commissions in place before the end of the year.

He is also hoping to settle the issue of the new Police Commissioner so that he could take office, early in the New Year "ideally from January 1... so I'm still working towards that."

At a media briefing on Friday, Jagdeo said on the timely appointment of the service commissions, he felt "strongly about this because the public servants, the policemen and the teachers... many have not been promoted because of this unusual situation that we have and we can't continue much longer."

Asked to evaluate the state of the dialogue between himself and PNCR Leader Robert Corbin, Jagdeo said that he was not going to speak about it until he had a chance to speak with Corbin.

In recent weeks both men have been blaming each other for the delays in establishing the commissions. An impasse over the composition of the police commission has not yet been resolved.
