ACDA awards seven students for outstanding performance

The African Cultural & Development Association (ACDA) recently awarded cash, gifts and certificates to seven students who were outstanding performers at external examinations this year.

The presentations were made at the association's 6th Annual Education Awards Ceremony on November 29, a release from ACDA said.

Hillier Emptage of Queen's College who secured three subjects at the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level Subsidiary) received $60,000 cash in addition to a Certificate of Excellence and gifts donated by the Guyana Review, the Georgetown Reading and Research Centre, The Business School, and ACDA.

Three students were awarded for their performance at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certi-ficate (CXC). Abiola Jacobs, Bishops' High School, who gained 11 subjects was presented with $50,000 cash, a Certificate of Excellence and books donated by the Guyana Review, The Business School, and ACDA.

And George Thomas of the same school who attained 11 passes also was awarded a similar cash prize besides a Certificate of Excellence and gifts donated by Nigel's Supermarket, the Guyana Review, the Georgetown Reading and Research Centre, and ACDA. Central High School student Adel Pierre who passed in eight subjects was granted $40,000 as tuition fees for the Guyana School of Agriculture, in addition to a $10,000 cash award, a Certificate of Excellence and gifts from Nigel's Supermarket, the Guyana Review, the George-town Reading and Research Centre and ACDA.

The release noted also that three students were each given $30,000 each for their performance at the Secondary Schools Entrance Examina-tion (SSEE). Keren Dolphin who got 556 marks was also given a Certificate of Excellence and gifts from Nigel's Supermarket, The Business School, the Georgetown Reading and Research Centre and ACDA; Yana Marisa Edwards scored 552 marks and also received a Certificate of Excellence and gifts from The Business School and ACDA; while Teon Loncke who made 550 marks was also given a Certificate of Excellence plus books donated by Austin's Book Services, The Business School, the Guyana Review, and ACDA.
