Georgetown selectors look to Under-23s

Georgetown selectors have turned to the youth department in the quest to upset Linden when the Kashif and Shanghai competition kicks off this Sunday at the MSC ground in Linden.

The selectors have named 12 players from the national Under-23 football team in a squad of 30 to go into training for possible selection for Sunday's game which will see the Garden City taking on arch rival Upper Demerara in the feature game of a double-header card.

National Under-23 captain Shawn Beveney leads the list of Under-23s which includes dependable wing-back Walter `Boyd' Moore, Anthony Harding, Andrew Durant, Kelvin McKenzie, Devon Millington, Sherwin Cadogan, Jonathan Peters, Elton Brown, Orlando Jilgeous, Travis Grant, Dirk Archer and Gregory `Jackie Chan' Richardson.

Other members of the Georgetown squad are: Leebert Stephenson, Dexter Bentick, Lester Peters, Elroy Parks (Conquerors) Eron Hayde (Western Tigers), Nigel Denny, Andre Mayers, Sherwin Grimes (Beacon), Dwayne Alli (Santos), Delon Glenn (Thomas United), Marlon Hendricks, Nigel Codrington, Troy Prescod, Leslie Holligan (Camptown), Sean Bishop and Kanata Mannings (Pele).

The team will be coached by Wayne Dover and Mark Joseph. Dr. George Norton is the manager. A briefing session will be held this evening at the GFC pavilion. The players called to trials are requested to be at GFC this afternoon. (Steve Ninvalle)
