Hemraj Kissoon, the Chief Executive Officer of AH&L Kissoon Ltd., has decided to move the company's administrative division to the Ruimveldt Industrial Site Area where it has opened a large factory showroom.

Plans aimed at expanding the Robb and Camp Street location are on hold, says Kissoon, since these were not approved by the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) although "the M&CC committed to a review of the plans at a later date."

He says the Furniture Land at Ruimveldt is all about "customers who want long lasting furniture and they should see they get quality. They can come and see how the furniture is actually made before buying."

He notes that all the sections of the manufacturing process are quality controlled and adhere to international standards. According to Kissoon, the company manufactures all its furniture right on site.

The process starts with the drying of the lumber, which then goes to the machine section. The parts are then taken to the assembly section before upholstering and finally, sealing is done.

Kissoon adds that, "the fabric used on some furniture is not the right type. The general public should shop and demand answers about the quality of the fabric as required by the Standards Bureau."

The factory also manufactures polyester fibre, polyurethane, and mattresses. The polyester fibre is used in garments, while the polyurethane is used for making foam. The polyurethane plant, Kissoon says, "is the most modern plant in the (Kissoon's) system." The mattress plant produces inner spring, foam and posturepedic type mattresses.

Furniture Land also manufactures metal furniture for offices and an international showroom has been established for potential overseas buyers. Kissoon says the company has markets in Miami, Barbados and Suriname.

Stabroek Business was told that Kissoon's has recently gone into the manufacture and export of flooring and decorative walls as well as the export of lumber. These products may be finished to the purchaser's requirements.

Furniture Land employs over 100 persons and is a part of the Kissoon Group of Com-panies, that also includes low-cost housing, cattle, rice, duck-rearing and aqua-culture.
