Defending champions Fruta Conquerors will be in action on the first official day of this year's Kashif and Shanghai competition.

Conquerors, who defeated Western Tigers to win last year's tournament, take on Net Rockers in the feature game of a double-header card at the MSC ground in Linden on December 14.

This information was made available at the well organised launching of the competition held in the mining town Saturday evening.

In the supporting game of the double-header card Swiss House Victoria Kings and Milerock, two former champions of the competition, clash for a chance in the quarter-final.

On Wednesday, December 17, Rupununi take on New Amsterdam All Star in the supporting event at the Camptown ground while Santos and Topp XX meet in the feature event.

Two days later Courts Calidonia of Trinidad meet with BV/Triumph in a supporting event. Host Camp-town face with Eagels United on Friday in the feature match.

The winner of that match will meet the survivor of the Conquerors/Net Rockers showdown in a quarter-final contest.

The action moves to the Wales Community Centre ground on Sunday December 21 where the two Barbadians Club participating in the competition will be on show.

Beacons face Notre Dame of Barbados in the opener at 5 pm while Uitvlugt All Stars clash with Deacon Farm of the Land of the Flying Fish.

Kashif and Shanghai director Kashif Muhammad disclosed that the first prize for this year's competition is $600,000.

Second, third and fourth place finishers will receive $250,000, $150,000 and $100,000 respectively. Each team winning a game will receive $10,000 up to the semi-final stage.

The competition, which is in its 14th year, kicks off on December 7 with a match between arch rivals Georgetown and Linden at the MSC ground in Linden.
