It is the Guyana government, and not the World Bank as incorrectly reported in Saturday's Stabroek News, which has committed itself "to allot counterpart resources to the Guyana Protected Areas Project, with annual contributions of US$115,000 (of which US$15,000) [will be] in cash) for the year 2004, and US $110,000 (of which US$10,000 [will be] in cash) for the two other years of Phase 1 of the project, up to a total contribution of US$335,000 (of which US$35,000 [will be] in cash)."

The error in the report was pointed out by EPA director Doorga Persaud.

Stabroek News regrets the error.

The Guyana Protected Areas System (GPAS) project is expected to be funded by the Global Environment Facility through its implementing agency, the World Bank, and is a process project with Shell Beach and the Kanuku Mountains proposed as pilot sites in Phase 1 of the project. This project is not yet approved.
