Guyana's hopes of breaking into the final stage of the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifier received a dent yesterday after the Under-23 team went down to host Costa Rica.

Unconfirmed reports from the Central American country state that Guyana was whipped 7-0 by the "very professional" Costa Ricans in the only game of the competition where they failed to score a goal.

Guyana was on a high before reaching Costa Rica after registering victories over Barbados and Caribbean powerhouse Trinidad and Tobago.

The national squad, alond with Technical Director Neider Dos Santos, is expected back home on Tuesday and will resume training for the second match of the home and away tie. Guyana take on Costa Rica in the return match on Sunday at the Blairmont ground.
