The National Cultural Centre will come alive on Saturday when the Youth of Worth (YOW) Committee stages the first ever ‘Junior Miss Guyana’ Pageant.

Ten talented beauties will be vying for the crown under the theme, ‘All colours, one rainbow’. Today, Stabroek News introduces five of the ten delegates:

Ballet enthusiast, Domanique Cameron dreams of someday being admitted to the local bar. The 17-year-old former student of Richard Ishamel sees the pageant as “her stepping stone”. The vibrant teen who lives in East Ruimveldt hopes to shine come pageant night. The young beauty took up ballet at age eight and has never looked back. Now a member of the National School of Dance, Domanique has won every dance and physical display competition at the Children’s Mashramani Competition since she started competing at age 13.

Melissa Daniels bagged the Miss Vreed-en-Hoop crown three years ago at the tender age of 14. The soft-spoken beauty from Plantain Walk, West Bank Demerara hopes to emulate former Miss Guyana/World, Olive Gopaul, whom she says has remained a queen in the eyes of many. Melissa, the eldest of four, described herself as elegant and humble. The aspiring paediatrician and former student of West Demerara Secondary, who dances every chance she gets, is currently pursing studies at Global Technology.

A tall and stately Ann-Marie Satnarine was told she has queenly qualities and could easily wear a crown should she compete in any pageant. The modest 16-year-old is from Wales Estate and aspires to be a 3D Graphic Animator. Ann-Marie, a student of the West Demerara Secondary School, dances in her spare time.

Fourteen-year-old Ayana Harris believes the crown could be hers if all goes well on pageant night. The poised, young beauty won the Miss Central High Junior title last year and is hoping to set herself apart this time around. Ayana, a current student of Central High hopes to someday be half the woman her aunt is. The Princess Street resident who enjoys modelling says her aunt is the ideal role model.

Nkechi Carter, who at 13 years old is the baby in the pageant, obviously feels age is not a factor in her quest for the crown. The Charlestown beauty sees the pageant as a way of grooming for similar endeavors in the future. A student of the School of the Nations, Nkechi is an ardent debater. The aspiring lawyer dances and sings when she is not interacting with her peers.
