Vreed-en-Hoop creates history with 20-0 drubbing of Den Amstel

Vreed-en-Hoop CHS created history on Thursday when they registered a 20-0 victory over their Den Amstel counterparts in the National Secondary Schools, Coco-Cola sponsored Under-18 Football Competition.

Playing at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground, Jason Critchlow accounted for five of his team’s 20 goals while Kester Jacobs, Oslen Jones and Shawn Fraser all scored three goals each. Wilton Freeman and David Linton both recorded doubles while Winston Johnson and Joseph Payne netted one goal each. According to one of the organisers, since the Coco-Cola competition started in 1992, no school has ever won a match by such a wide margin.

Also registering victories on Thursday were Uitvlugt Secondary and Grove Secondary. Uitvlugt registered a 7-0 victory over La Venture Secondary while Grove Secondary recorded a 9-0 win against Soesdyke CHS in an East Bank Fixture.

Desmond Hector bagged a treble for Uitvlugt while Keron Smith scored a double. One goal each came off the boots of Travis Collins and Stephen Accra.

In the Grove Secondary versus Soesdyke affair, Devon Green found the back of his opponents’ net on four occasions while Kevin Cummings found his target twice. Kenny Domenick, Quinton Tinnie and Quacy Tinnie all scored one goal each.

Vreed-en-Hoop will now face Uitvlugt on November 5, in one of two West Demerara Zone semi-final matches. The other semi-final will be contested between West Demerara Secondary who secured a walk over from Vergenoegen CHS and the winner of the Stewartville versus Leonara match. The latter is scheduled for Monday. In action on the East Bank, Mocha CHS and Grove Secondary will meet on Tuesday in a semi-final encounter and the winner will meet the winner of the Dora Secondary versus Covent Garden Secondary in the final of the East Bank Zone on November 8.

In results from matches in the four Georgetown groups, (Group A) Richard Ishmael defeated Queen’s College 3-1 with goals from Colvin James and Wayne Fredericks. The other goal came via a defence error. Jermain Munroe scored Queen’s College’s lone goal.

(Group B) St. John’s College, St. George’s High and Christ Church Secondary all secured walk over victories from St. Rose’s High, Brickdam Secondary and Mae’s Secondary respectively.

St. John’s will face Christ Church in one of two semi-final matches on November 6 while St. George’s will meet the winner of the St. Mary’s Secondary versus Central High in the other group semi-final on November 10. The final in this group is billed for November 12. (Group C) North Ruimveldt Secondary beat Ascension CHS 5-0, through a treble from T. Griffith and one goal each from Q. Gregg and T. Henry, Carmel Secondary registered a 4-0 win against Tucville Secondary. Scoring for the winners were N. Moe, A. Murray, O. Williams and C. Shepherd and Lodge High secured a walk over from Charlestwon Secondary.

North Ruimveldt Multilateral is down to face Lodge High in the semi-final, while Carmel will meet the winner of the David Rose High versus East Ruimveldt game which is billed for Monday at the GFC ground.

(Group D) Dolphin Secondary scored a 1-0 win against Kingston, Queenstown CHS scored a 5-1 victory over St. Winifred through goals from Kwond Alfred and Videsh Sookram who both registered doubles and Tshakidi Craig who scored one goal. Rishawn Sandiford scored St. Winifred’s lone goal and Alleyne’s High secured a walk over from St. Barnabas.

Dolphin Secondary and Alleyne’s High will now meet in a semi-final fixture on Tuesday while Queenstown CHS will meet the winner of the game between Sophia Special School and New Campbellville Secondary. This game is scheduled for Monday at the National Park.
