The Medical Council of Guyana has reviewed the report submitted to it on the death of a mother at the Georgetown Public Hospital and has sent its findings to the hospital’s administration.

A source close to the council earlier this week told Stabroek News that following the review of the report it had found some other implications involving doctors that were not included.

Contacted yesterday, Director of Medical & Professional Services at the hospital, Dr Madan Rambarran confirmed that the report had been submitted to the hospital and the council did not suggest that further investigations be done.

He said the report was submitted to the Chief Executive Officer, Michael Khan who will now make the final decision on the course of action to be taken. Repeated efforts by this newspaper to contact Khan yesterday were unsuccessful.

Somatie Singh, of Mahaicony Creek, died on September 29 after she was forced to walk to the washroom instead of being given a bedpan which her relatives had repeatedly asked for. The woman had a pre-existing heart condition and doctors required her to wear an oxygen mask at all times. A nursing assistant, who forced the young woman to walk to the washroom, had removed the mask, according to family members. The assistant denies this.
