DDL leads stock exchange trades

Trading picked up on the stock exchange yesterday with 117,397 shares from four companies valued at $833,343 changing hands.

This was an improvement from last week when shares worth only $158,443 were traded. But the number of trades remains small and this is an indication that the people are yet to see shares as a way of investing.

Demerara Distillers Ltd (DDL) led with 75,822 shares being traded at a price of $6.50 per share for a total value of $492,844. Some 30,000 shares in Banks DIH Ltd also traded at $6.30 each. The National Bank of Industry and Commerce (NBIC) saw 10,875 of its shares traded at $12.00 per share for a total of $130,500 while 700 shares of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) traded for $30.00 per share.

According to the Market Journal issued by the Guyana Association of Securities Industries and Intermediaries Inc (GASCI), shares remaining for trading at the next session are: 3,681,000 for Banks DIH Ltd at a best offer (best price at which one is prepared to sell) of $6.40 per share; 425,000 of DDL at a best offer of $6.80 per share; 134,000 of NBIC at a best offer of $13; 91,000 of Guyana Stockfeeds Inc at a best offer of $15 per share; 13,000 of GBTI at a best offer of $30 per share and 11,000 of Sterling Products Ltd at a best offer of $60 per share.

Bids remaining according to GASCI are: 620,000 shares of Demerara Bank Ltd at a best bid (best price one is prepared to pay) of $1.20 per share; 101,000 shares of Citizens Bank Guyana Inc at a best bid of $12 per share; 124,000 shares of DDL at a best bid of $6.50 per share; 41,000 shares of Demerara Tobacco Company Ltd at best bid of $44; 20,000 shares of Banks DIH Ltd at a best bid of $6 per share; 10,000 shares of GBTI at a best bid of $25 per share; 10,000 shares of Sterling Products Ltd at a best bid of $15; 2,000 shares of NBIC at a best bid of $12 per share and 2,000 shares of Property Holdings Inc at a best bid of $6 per share.
