First regional ethnic committee launched

As an offshoot of the national body the first regional ethnic relations committee was launched in Region Three on Friday with Orville Stuart appointed as its president.

The committee, which according to a release from the Government Information Agency (GINA), will function for one year is expected to receive training on how to promote ethnic relations. Assistance for this training is to be sought through the local office of the Carter Center.

According to the GINA release, the committee’s terms of reference (TOR) are in keeping with those clauses in the Constitutional Amendment Act.

However in an open floor session participants directed the committee to make the TOR more specific to better suit the uniqueness of the region, the release said.

According to the release the participants further proposed that the committee hold meetings in all 14 Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDC).

Other office bearers of the body are Harriram Narine Vice President, Reggie Samall, Secretary; Bridgette Washington, Assistant Secretary/Treasurer; and Committee Members, Edward Matthews, Nelo Adams, Komal Narine, Harry Chand and Kissoon Sahadeo. Co-ordinator of Love Outreach International, John Palmer will serve as the committee’s advisor.
