GINA -- THE Main Big Lime has become a part of our tradition and this year's event could be termed as extremely successful.

So says Minster of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Manzoor Nadir, in an invited comment to the Government Information Agency (GINA).

The Main Big Lime was held on Sunday, December 28, 2003 on Main Street, between North Road and Cowan Street.

Thousands of people from all walks of life attended the event. The Lime commenced at 10:00 hours and went beyond the scheduled conclusion time of 22:00 hours.

Minister Nadir noted that participation, by a wide cross-section of people, overseas-based Guyanese, people from as far as West Berbice and Linden, was what made the lime successful.

The Lime this year included several new aspects, such as lights on most of the trees, new games and rides for families, diversity of foods, and a larger area for the event.

The Main Big Lime this year was a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce and the private sector, with assistance from the Mayor and City Council of Georgetown.

This year, the Ministry's role was reduced to organization and the private sector played a more active role.

As for security arrangements, Minister Nadir said that in addition to the work of the Police, several private security agencies must be commended, since no major incident occurred.
