Exciting races carded for two-day Kennard Christmas meet

SOME 50 horses have registered for the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club’s two-way Christmas horse race programme which starts tomorrow.

On the Boxing Day programme seven races are carded, with three being feature events.

The first feature event is for horses classified G and Lower over six furlongs for a first prize of $70 000 and the Navendra (Narine) Ganesh Memorial Trophy. Favourites for this event include Rejoice, Cheap Tricks and Lucky Coin. The race is being sponsored by the Discount Store of 102 Regent Street and Rudy Kharag, a Regent Street businessman.

The second feature for horses F and Lower seven furlongs is sponsored by the National Bank of Industry and Commerce (NBIC) with a first prize of $90 000 and the Jagdat Naul Trophy with favourites being My Arrival, Temptation, What Now and Royal Madrid.

The main feature race is for horses C and Lower over six furlongs and is sponsored by DDL.

The favourites Show Time, Sunday Haven, Satranie and What-A-Pleasure will have a first prize of $100 000.

Other races carded for the day are for the I and Lower, sponsored by P & P Insurance Brokers and Consultants for six furlongs with a top prize of $60 000. L and Lower for the Mahase Ramphal Memorial trophy. This race will be for five furlongs with a prize of $50 000; the H and Lower sponsored by Delmur Company Limited over five furlongs for $65 000; and the J and Lower, sponsored by Medicare Pharmacy and J.P. Ghamadi for a purse of $50 000 and the Corporal Seetaram Memorial Trophy.

Seven other races have been set for the second day, Sunday December 28 with three more feature races.

The first feature is for two-year-olds over six furlongs and is sponsored by Metro, Goodwood Racing Service and K. Haniff (contractor) for a first prize of $90 000 and the Buddy Joree Memorial Trophy. Favourites for this race are: Cash Run, Rea Pele, Nirmala and Mr Henessy.

The three-year-old derby is the second feature race and is sponsored by Neal and Massy Guyana Limited for a first prize of $100 000 and the Mr and Mrs Deo Kharag Memorial Trophy.

The main feature is for the C and Lower horses over one mile, again sponsored by DDL for a prize of $130 000 and the El Dorado trophy.

The favourites for this event are: What a Pleasure, Showtime, Satranie and Sunday Haven.

The other races for the day include the H and Lower battling over six furlongs in the NBIC-sponsored event for $65 000 and the Samuel Ramgadoo Memorial trophy, while the L and Non-winners race for six furlongs is being sponsored by Len’s and Ganesh Parts and General Store of Robb Street. The first prize is $50 000 and the Roy Seegobin and Son Trophy. Favourites are: Felicia, Gentleman and Miracle Bullet.

The J and Lower event is sponsored by Jumbo Jet and is for a prize of $50 000 and the Gouridat Persaud Trophy. The final race is for horses classified G and Lower and is sponsored by GT&T.

Galloping starts at 13:30 hrs both days at the Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne. The track is in excellent condition and two days of exciting races are anticipated.
