With the preliminary competitions complete, the crown of Miss Guyana Universe 2004 could very well go to Olive Gopaul, Odessa Phillips or Michelle Armstrong.
Their chances of winning the crown to represent Guyana in Ecuador for the 2004 Miss Universe pageant were significantly boosted following the swimsuit competition held at the Splashmins Fun Park Sunday.

Olive, Odessa and Michelle all answered their questions smoothly during the intelligence segment held two Sunday's ago on GTV, and their swimsuit look was definitely stunning, especially that of Ms. Gopaul.

Olive's natural walk on stage, her fitness, and best of all her pretty face, could have very well sized up the figures on the swimsuit score card and she would definitely be a superb choice if crowned.

Odessa's strong point is her charisma on stage and her ability to show that she totally loves the catwalk, and this is the catch for anyone who wants to catapult their way to the big stage, especially Miss Universe.

As for Michelle Armstrong, she is definitely someone who can speak well, and she has a warm personality that comes across in her smile. She looks hot in a swimsuit too!

For these reasons, come December 27th for the grand finale, "the" competition could very well be between Olive, Odessa and Michelle.

However, they are definitely not the only ones in the competition and the contestant that could find her way in the top five is the pretty Verita George.

George, who hopes to become a supermodel one day, was the best in the intelligence competition and if you saw her at Splashmins in the gold-bronze swimsuit, helped of course by the "high" heels, you would definitely rate her as one of the top contenders.

MTV's court reporter Joylyn Perreira is getting into the act of enjoying the stage and, given that she is a sure bet for a place in the top 15, she will only need to be a bit more positive and things could very well go her way.

Of course, with the mention of these five, there are 18 more contestants to watch and when the 15 semi-finalists are announced on the night of the pageant, there could very well be some surprises.

The Chronicle understands that artistic director of the Miss Guyana World pageant, Derek Moore, has been roped in to design the stage for the night of the pageant.

The design will be that of a ship and the contestants will do the introductory segment dressed as sailors. Let's see how the idea sails!

After the 15 finalists are announced, they will take part in another swimsuit competition, and then the evening gown competition will take place.

These scores will determine who gets a slot in the top five and gets to answer the final question for the crowning of Miss Guyana Universe 2004.
