The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) in a brief ceremony on Monday evening at Le Meridian Pegasus honoured four Soca singers who have been promoting the "War On Bad Manners" campaign through song.

Artists, Ms. Monica "Sweet Monique" Wills copped the top prize of $100,000 and a trophy donated by Omai Gold Mines Limited.

The second prize of $75,000 and a trophy went to the Laselle Duke also called "Mighty Duke" and the third, to Singer and composer, Martin Barnes who did the jingle titles "war on bad manners" which is currently being played on the airwaves.

Young Bill Rogers was given the fourth prize of $25,000 and a wrist watch. The competition sponsored by the GTA and the Ministry of Tourism, Commerce and Industry.

The "War on Bad Manners" Soca Competition was held at the Everest Cricket Ground last Sunday, with nine top Calypsonians putting up a stiff battle - not only on 'bad manners', but in competition for the top prizes.

Amidst 'quality' performers were eight males and the lone female calypsonian "Sweet Monique" vying for the top position.

After some deliberating, Sweet Monique, who vaunted and paraded on stage fully dressed in a military camouflage outfit, and a scarlet sash, emblazoned with the theme of the Competition "War on Bad Manners" was declared the winner by the panel of judges.

Arriving on stage, Monique signaled that it was definitely going to be a war on bad manner, by discharging her weapon, almost scaring the judges out of their wits.
