IT HAS been exactly one month now since Vivekanand Nandalall, 20, of Lot 125, Non-Pariel, Block 12, East Coast Demerara, was kidnapped while en route to IMAX Gardens in his taxi for a pickup.

The young man was kidnapped by a group of men on October 16 on the Railway Embankment in the vicinity of Buxton. There has been no sign of Nandalall even though his relatives have paid a ransom, and have conducted several searches.

Relatives said that his abductors ended all contact with them via the telephone after the $1M ransom was paid on October 18.

But according to a close relative, the very caller who, on several occasions had telephoned the family with ransom demands, telephoned last Thursday and said that he would hand over Nandlall’s head for the $500,000 reward that was posted by the family for any information regarding his whereabouts.

Before abruptly ending the call, the relative told the caller that he is not a butcher and he would not buy Nandalall’s body parts.

Relatives said that it seems as though Nandalall has simply disappeared.

The Sunday Chronicle understands that one caller had earlier told the family that Nandalall was reportedly killed on the very day on which the ransom was paid.

The caller said that the men were holding Nandalall in the city and after the ransom was dropped off, he was killed and his body was transported to Buxton, East Coast Demerara where they burnt it on the Railway Embankment that night.

Nandalall’s taxi which he was driving at the time he was abducted was found abandoned at Annandale Railway Embankment. It was dusted for fingerprints and six sets of fingerprints were lifted from the vehicle.

The silver gray motorcar, PGG 3648, has since been lodged at the Vigilance Police Station.

After the kidnapping, the Guyana Police Force had issued the names of a number of key suspects whom they believe could assist them in this investigation. These persons are Albert Andrews known as `Doney’, Roger Bunbury also called `Don Dick’, Marvin Archer known as `Marvin Peters or Skittle”, Royston Peters and Rondell Rollins also called `Fine Man’, who are hiding out in Buxton and the surrounding areas.

It further stated that Roger Bunbury is also wanted in connection with the murder of several policemen during the past crime wave.

Despite the time that has elapsed, Nandalall’s parents, who had returned from abroad after his abduction, still hope that he is alive and will return someday.

“We can’t give up hope that he is alive. We will pray that he comes back because I believe that he is still alive somewhere,” said a relative yesterday.
