A TAXI driver is in custody following what Police say was a kidnapping hoax at Enmore, East Coast Demerara.

According to a police press release, about 09:00 hours yesterday a taxi driver took a man to the house of a housewife of Enmore, East Coast Demerara, and the man reportedly told her that her husband had been kidnapped.

The release said the police were informed and along with a relative conducted a search in the Golden Grove backdam area, where the man and his friend left for work about 05:30 hours yesterday.

It stated that the man and his friend were found alive and well.

The police said there is no evidence that a kidnapping or attempted kidnapping ever occurred.

Efforts are being made to contact the man who took the message to the wife.

The Guyana Chronicle was reliably informed that the men, called 'Lesile' and 'Bachan', are residents of Enmore and work on a mango farm at Golden Grove backdam, East Coast Demerara.
