ATTORNEY at Law and former Ambassador to Venezuela, Mr. Bayney Karran, has been appointed Guyana's new Ambassador to the United States of America.

Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon, at a news conference yesterday, said Ambassador Karran was introduced to the entire Cabinet at its most recent meeting on Tuesday, prior to his departure next Tuesday to take up his new posting in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Karran replaces Dr. Odeen Ishmael who is currently Guyana's Ambassador to Venezuela.

Luncheon told reporters that in his introduction to Cabinet, Mr. Karran was provided with Cabinet's views on the importance of proactive representation of Guyana's national interest in the America Capital, the home of its Parliament, the Headquarters of the International Financial Institutions, many important and influential international organizations and bodies and the location of many important American political, social and religious bodies.

He said Mr. Karran was also reminded of the need to represent Guyana and its interest in all of these bodies.

Luncheon also indicated that Ambassador Karran would be joining a strengthened Guyanese diplomatic community in Washington, D.C. and also should be ably supported by the experienced Dr. Havelock Brewster at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the recently appointed Dr. Gobin ganga and Ms. Lisa Ramotar at the World Bank.
