HEAD of the Presidential Secretariat and Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon, yesterday indicated that Cabinet has commenced its exercise of the appointment of Boards of Directors of entities for the new anniversary year.

He told his regular weekly post-Cabinet briefing that this appointment exercise will be influenced by decisions taken as far back as the dialogue process between the President and the Leader of the Opposition where acceptable PPP/C and PNC/R members to Boards in general will be appointed.

Luncheon also pointed out that for some Boards, as in the state media, the exercise would also be influenced by agreements made by the two leaders on recommendations from the Bi-partisan Committee on Media and Monopoly dealing with the composition of State Media Boards.

Under that agreement, membership would be extended to workers' representatives, representatives of the two leaders, University of Guyana, Consumers Association and PPP/C representatives.

He also noted that the life of the Boards of the Guyana Television Broadcasting Company Ltd. (GTV) and the Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) would be extended pending the merger of the two State entities. In the meantime, Luncheon announced that the Board of the Guyana National Newspaper Ltd. (GNNL) has been appointed.

Mr. Keith Burrowes was appointed the new Chairman of the GNNL Board. Outgoing Chairman, Mr. Hubert Rodney, will remain on the Board as a member. The other members of the Board are Mr. Mohamed Karimullah, Mr. David De Groot, Ms. Supriya Singh, Mr. Tota Mangar and a yet to be confirmed representative of the Consumer Association. (Mark Ramotar)
