Shankar Persaud, 44, of Lot 2 Market Street, Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, was deported from the United States of America on July 14, 2003, following his release from jail.

According to a release from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Guyana Police Force, Persaud departed Guyana legally for the United States on August 20, 2000. On April 23, 2001 he was arrested and charged with conspiracy to import narcotics.

He appeared in Court and was sentenced to two years imprisonment. On completion of his sentence, Persaud was released into the custody of the U.S. Immigration and later deported to Guyana.
