THE Guyana Fire Service (GFS), in collaboration with the University of Guyana Institute of Distance and Continuing Education (IDCE), is hosting a training seminar for middle management officers at the University of Guyana.

More than 15 officers are participating in the five-day training programme under the theme "The challenge of change", according to a statement from the Government Information Agency (GINA).

Chief Fire Officer, Mr. Carlyle Washington, in his address at the opening ceremony challenged participants to pay keen attention to what is being taught so they will be better able to supervise their respective departments more effectively and efficiently.

"Everyone of you from the various services have to be guiding light to your organization," said Washington.

Director of IDCE said that he is confident that when the programme is concluded that the participants will want to attend the University.

Aspects of the programme include managerial roles, staff appraisal, communications in management, managerial skills, human relations and motivation.

Representatives came from the Guyana Defence Force, Guyana Fire Service, Guyana Prison Service and the City Constabulary, with more than 10 years work experience.

GINA said the programme concludes on Friday.
