RESIDENTS of New Amsterdam and its environs are now enjoying the convenience of a Western Union branch, which offers all the modern services that exist at other outlets in Guyana. Grace Kennedy Remittance Services (Guyana) Limited (GKRS), the local agent for Western Union/Bill Express Services, launched the facility at J’s Supermarket, Essex Street New Amsterdam on Tuesday, October 21, 2003.

A press release from the Water Street, Georgetown offices of Grace Kennedy, indicated that the newest Western Union location brings to 37 the number of Western Union/Bill Express branches countrywide. This is the eighth Western Union outlet in the Berbice area.

The release stated: “Mr. Amjad Rahaman, Agent Network Officer, remarked that the goal of GKRS is to assist people to resolve the unmet needs in their lives by bringing service and convenience closer to them. He commended the initiative taken by Mr. Ramanand Sripal, owner of J’s Supermarket, to bring the Western Union/Bill Express service to the people of New Amsterdam and surrounding areas.

“Mr. Rahaman noted that it was through sub-agents such as J’s that GKRS/Western Union is able to interact with and contribute to activities and events that are community based and are directed at economic and social development. He further noted, ‘Our involvement with local businesses helps us to share our vision of continuously bringing quality services to the people of Guyana, and, by extension, the world.’

“Western Union customers will have the convenience of sending or receiving money from anywhere around Guyana or around the world. In addition, the Bill Express service will make it easier for customers to pay their electricity, telephone and Internet bills quickly, conveniently and with no hassle,” the release concluded.
