Now it seems that all contacts have broken off between the relatives of kidnapped taxi driver Vivekanand Nandalall, 20, of Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara, and his abductors. The relatives are hoping that the kidnappers would hasten to call to tell them the fate of the young man.

His whereabouts is still unknown and this has become even more worrying for relatives now after they have paid a huge ransom more than 48 hours ago.

The kidnappers were demanding a $5 million ransom from the Nandalall's relatives and the Chronicle understands they were struggling to come up with that amount of cash.

However, an undisclosed sum of money was dropped off at a location the kidnappers instructed them to take it to, via telephone contact. They had been using Nandalall's cell phone to make contacts with the relatives.

The relatives had expected Nandalall to show up following the payment of the ransom, but he did not. And since then the abductors made no further contact with the family.

Police were up to late yesterday still scouring the area looking for the man. Villagers who volunteered in the search were also combing the Bladen Hall back dam area in an effort to find clues on the kidnapped man's whereabouts.

Relatives late yesterday afternoon said their level of uneasiness, not knowing the whereabouts of Nandalall has intensified and there is not much optimism now that he would return home alive.

His tear eyed father told the Chronicle, "I would hate to know that fuh de rest of me life I have to keep looking over my shoulder and hope to see he come back. If he dead let me bury he tomorrow and I gon know that's the end of it".

The taxi driver was kidnapped on Thursday last by a group of men on the Railway Embankment Road, East Coast Demerara, near the troubled village of Buxton.

At the time he was abducted, he was driving a silver grey Toyota motorcar PGG 3648, which was found, abandoned on the railway embankment. It was lodged at the Vigilance Police Station.

Police had conducted a cordoned and search operation along the East Coast and carried out a house to house search in the village of Buxton but the missing taxi driver was not found.

One person was reportedly arrested and taken into police custody assisting with investigations.

On Saturday, police issued a wanted bulletin for a number of suspects who they believe can assist in the investigations.

These persons are Albert Andrews also called 'Doney' Roger Bumbury known as "Don Dick', Marvin Archer called Marvin Peters or 'Skittle' Royston Peters and Rondell Rollins also called 'Fine Man'. These men are believed to be hiding out in the Buxton and the surrounding area.
